What’s so special about classical music?

As you can tell from our musical choices, we’re huge fans of classical music. We love how a complicated, sophisticated score can come together into something so magnificent and moving.

But that’s not why we chose to include so many classical music pieces in our Baby’s Brilliant repertoire. We think that there are many benefits to listening to classical music, especially for children.

A well-chosen classical piece can be very calming. For example, our Animal Kingdom movie includes the “Clarinet Concerto In A” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. As parents ourselves, we appreciate it when our children can have a chance to slow down and appreciate a calm moment. In turn, that helps us to be calmer too!

We agree with Tolstoy when he said, “Music is the shorthand of emotion.” We hope that the children that listen to classical music via Baby’s Brilliant will associate certain songs with not only the concepts being presented, but with memorable moments in their lives. Baby’s Brilliant isn’t just teaching them their numbers, etc., but it’s also giving them the gift of classical music that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Listen to the Baby’s Brilliant sample of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto for an example of a great cultural masterpiece that all children should have access to.

Have you ever had trouble falling asleep? If so, researchers have found that listening to classical music before bedtime can help people fall to sleep more quickly and sleep more soundly. We found that when we played classical music to our children when they were younger and had trouble falling asleep, they slept much better. That made us all happier!

Stay tuned for more classical music on Baby’s Brilliant!
